Compassionate Ericksonian Treatment Services

Gentle, indirect hypnotherapy for deep, lasting change

At Renew You Hypnotherapy, I use Compassionate Ericksonian Hypnotherapy – a respectful, flexible style that works with your mind instead of against it.

Rather than forceful commands or “you will” statements, Ericksonian therapy uses:

  • Indirect suggestions

  • Stories and metaphors

  • Conversational language

  • Natural relaxation that arises from within you

This makes it especially powerful for people who:

  • Feel skeptical about hypnosis

  • Have high anxiety or resistance

  • Prefer a calm, human conversation rather than a rigid procedure

  • Have tried other therapies with limited results

What this approach is good for

Ericksonian hypnotherapy is highly versatile and has been used successfully with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
Reducing constant worry, panic, and tension; helping you feel calmer and more in control.

  • Depression and low mood
Supporting shifts in thinking patterns and helping you reconnect with hope and energy.

  • Habits and addictions
Smoking, overeating, drinking, nail-biting, and other patterns that feel hard to break.

  • Weight loss and body image
Helping you change how you relate to food, your body, and self-care.

  • Phobias and obsessions
Walking through fears step by step, reducing their intensity and grip.

  • Trauma and emotional pain
Processing difficult experiences safely, without being flooded or overwhelmed.

  • Sleep problems
Quieting the mind so you can rest properly and wake up clearer.

  • Performance and confidence
Sport, work, public speaking, creative performance, or anything where pressure gets in the way.

You don’t need to be “good at hypnosis” or fully believe in it to benefit. Most people find they relax naturally and respond well, even if they’re unsure at first.

How an Ericksonian session works

Every session is tailored to you, but a typical session includes:

  1. A short conversation
We talk about what’s going on, what you’d like to change, and any concerns you have. This also helps me understand your style and what language works best for you.

  2. A comfortable, natural relaxation
You sit or lie down in a relaxed position. I guide you into a calm, focused state in a way that fits you – not a rigid, one-size-fits-all induction.

  3. Therapeutic work using indirect methods
Using stories, metaphors, and indirect suggestions, I help your unconscious mind:

Because the suggestions are indirect and flexible, there’s much less resistance than with more authoritarian approaches.

    • Reframe old patterns

    • Access strengths you already have

    • Create new ways of thinking, feeling, and responding

  4. A gentle return
You are brought back gradually, feeling clear, relaxed, and often lighter.

  5. A brief summary and next steps.

We discuss what happened, what to notice between sessions, and whether further sessions would help.

Sessions are usually 60–90 minutes. Many people notice changes within a few sessions, though the exact number depends on your goals and history.

Why choose Ericksonian over more “traditional” hypnosis?

Not all forms of hypnosis are the same

Traditional / authoritarian hypnosis often uses:

  • Direct commands: “You will feel calm,” “Your hand is stuck.”

  • Rigid scripts and one-size-fits-all procedures

  • More forceful, controlling language

Ericksonian hypnosis is different:

  • Uses indirect suggestions: “You might begin to notice a sense of calm…”

  • Tailored to your story, language, and history

  • Respectful of your unconscious mind and your resistance

  • Works with your mind, not against it

his makes Ericksonian work especially suitable for people who:

  • Don’t like being told what to do

  • Have tried other therapies that felt too structured or pushy

  • Prefer something compassionate and conversational

Safety, control, and common concerns

You might have heard stories about hypnosis from films or stage shows. Real therapy is very different:

  • Will I lose control?
No. You remain aware and in control throughout. You can speak, move, or stop the session if you wish.

  • Can I be hypnotised against my will?
No. Hypnosis requires your cooperation. If you don’t want to relax deeply, you won’t.

  • What if I can’t come out of hypnosis?
It’s not possible to “stay stuck”. You’re never unconscious, and you can return to normal awareness whenever you choose.

  • Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy has no drug-like side effects. It’s used alongside, not as a replacement for, medical care when needed.

If you have specific concerns (e.g. past trauma, mental health conditions, epilepsy), we can discuss them openly before starting.

Who this is for

This is for you if:

  • You’ve been struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, habits, or trauma for a while

  • You feel like you’re “trying hard” but not getting results

  • You’re open to a different approach that works with your mind, not against it

  • You want something gentle, practical, and lasting

This is probably not the right option if:

  • You’re looking for a magic cure with no effort

  • You’re in an acute mental health crisis that needs urgent specialist care

  • You’re not willing to attend more than one session (most people need more than one to see clear change)
